USCIS Launches New E-Verify Website

Today, the USCIS announced the launch of its new website, E-Verify.gov, designed to provide information and resources to employers, employees and the general public about the E-Verify program and Form I-9. E-Verify is a web-based system which permits employers to confirm the eligibility of employees to work in the U.S. by matching records available to the Social Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security. 

E-Verify is not currently required of all employers, though U.S. employers with federal contracts or subcontracts that contain the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) E-Verify clause are required to enroll in E-Verify. In addition, several states require E-Verify for at least some public and/or private employers. 

Currently, F-1 students who have graduated in a STEM field may obtain 24 additional months of post-completion optional practical training (36 months total) if they work with an E-Verify employer in a STEM occupation.
