USCIS Redesigns Green Cards and EADs

January 31, 2023

The USCIS has announced new designs  to improve the security of Permanent Resident Cards (Green Cards) and Employment Authorization documents (EADs). The USCIS began issuing the redesigned cards January 30, 2023 although some cards issued after this date may continue to display the existing format. Introduction of the new designs does not mean that previously issued cards are invalid unless otherwise noted. Additionally, while much older Green Cards without an expiration date generally remain valid, USCIS encourages applicants with these cards to apply for a replacement card to prevent fraud or tampering in the case their card is ever lost or stolen.

These design changes are part of a continued effort by USCIS to improve national safety and security by preventing document counterfeiting and fraud.
